Ocean Solutions
Overlooking the Main Gallery, Mystic Aquarium’s Ocean Solutions gallery engages guests in exciting and innovative ways in which the ocean can help solve the global biodiversity and climate crises through the establishment of marine protected areas and the responsible use of renewable ocean energy.
Ocean Refuge
Glimpse into the wonder that is the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument. Located 130 miles off the coast of Cape Cod, the monument is one of the planet’s natural treasures. Roughly the size of Connecticut, this region is renowned for its biodiversity, including long-lived, deep-sea coral communities, whales, dolphins, seabirds, and sea turtles, as well as large predatory fish such as tuna, billfish, swordfish, and sharks. This interactive exhibit takes you on a journey through the underwater canyons and seamounts and highlights the significance of this area. Protections for the Northeast Monument were restored in the Fall of 2021.
Ocean Refuge was created in partnership with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Wildlife Refuge System, & NOAA Ocean Exploration.
Renewable Ocean Energy
Transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy is one of the best ways to combat climate change. The ocean is a largely untapped resource for generating clean, renewable energy. Discover how marine energy and offshore wind are the waves of the future.
The Ocean Solutions gallery highlights Mystic Aquarium’s efforts to save species, protect the environment, and drive climate solutions.
Renewable Ocean Energy was created in partnership with U.S. Department of Energy, DOE Water Power Technology Office, National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Revolution Wind, Park City Wind, and Ocean Power Technologies.
