Animal Encounters: Learn More

Mystic Aquarium offers the perfect environment to enjoy and explore animals while having outdoor adventures in nature. Our camps are designed to engage our campers every day, whether they are indoors or outside. Each camp has its own dedicated classroom within the Milne Ocean Science and Conservation Center, which is separated from the general public to continue learning and exploration.

Camper and Educator Health & Safety

In accordance with the State of Connecticut requirements for youth camps, Mystic Aquarium has established the following guidelines to ensure camper and instructor safety for this summer:

  • Full-day camps will have a maximum of 18 campers with dedicated instructors. Our PreK camps will have a maximum of 16 campers with dedicated instructors.
  • Each camp has a dedicated classroom to serve as their home base.
  • The process for admitting campers during the Covid era changes continually. Caregivers will be notified of any changes to our procedures as they occur. At this time, each morning all staff and children will be screened for any observable illness, which includes cough, respiratory distress, or any other sign of illness. Staff or children who are showing signs of illness will not be permitted into the program.
  • If a camper develops any symptoms during the camp day, they will be moved immediately to a dedicated area to await pick up.
  • Face-covering requirements continue to change. Caregivers will be notified of any changes that may affect their camper.   Staff and campers are not required to wear a face covering at this time, but they are welcome to do so if they want to. In the event the need for face coverings returns, parents will be informed, and exceptions will be made for anyone with documentation that wearing a face covering would be contrary to his or her health or safety because of a medical condition.
  • Staff will teach and enforce good hand and respiratory hygiene and social distancing.
  • Increased vigilance will be given to our already thorough cleaning and disinfecting procedures.
  • Camps will take advantage of a wealth of outdoor exhibits and natural areas that exist in and directly around the Aquarium. Full-day camps will also take a field trip to a local estuary.
