A wayward gray seal was rescued by Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo from the shoreline of Tobacco Bay in Bermuda on March 19. Believed to be the first-ever rescued gray seal in Bermuda, BAMZ veterinarians treated the emaciated adult female for multiple small wounds, nasal discharge and dehydration. The island community quickly rallied in support of the visitor, naming her “Lou-Seal”.
On April 10 she traveled via CargoJet to Newark Airport and was then transported to Mystic Aquarium where she received continued care from animal care professionals. After reaching the goals to increase her body condition to a healthy weight, maintain proper red and white blood cell counts and ensured all her wounds properly healed – she was released on May 30.
