Marine Biology Mentor Series

Interested in a career in marine biology or need to complete a job shadow or mentoring experience?  Then we have the program for you!  This program will offer students an opportunity to gain up to 20 service hours through 4 weekly marine science workshops.  Each workshop will highlight a different career path and include peeks behind the scenes and opportunities to talk with and work alongside staff. 


  • Saturday, March 7, 14, 21, and 28 – 9:00 am-2:00 pm
  • Cost: Members $60 for the series, Non-members $70 for all series workshops

Marine Career Fair

This open house is a special event tailored for high school and college students to learn about the wide variety of careers available in the marine science field.  Discover what careers exist in the field of marine science, participate in a panel discussion with Aquarium interns and staff, get your marine science career questions answered by our enthusiastic staff, meet with the volunteer coordinator and complete the volunteer application, and visit the Aquarium to see careers in action! Registration coming soon.

Animal Training Husbandry Workshop

Have you ever wondered how our staff cares for the diverse species that call Mystic Aquarium home or wanted to pursue a career as an animal trainer? In addition to African penguin and California sea lion training sessions and behind the scenes tours, participants will have the choice to work alongside beluga whale, Steller sea lion or our Fish, Invertebrate, and Reptile staff. A networking lunch with members of the animal care team is included with registration. Registration coming soon.

Coral Reef Ecology, Aquaculture and Exhibit Maintenance Workshop

Working alongside Aquarium staff and local coral experts, participants will learn about coral species, coral conservation and what it takes to set up your own salt water exhibit.  This full-day workshop will also provide the opportunity for younger aquarists to networks and present on their own coral projects. Registration coming soon.

Throughout the year, Mystic Aquarium receives a great number of requests for research projects, staff interviews, job shadows, and filming opportunities. As a non-profit organization, there are limitations on the number of requests that we are able to accommodate. In order to clarify information and quicken response time, we respectfully ask that you submit a request form. Counselor In Training Program

Mystic Aquarium is proud to announce its newest teen volunteer opportunity – Sumer Camp Counselor In Training (CIT).  This program is specifically designed for students ages 16 -18 to provide experience working with children in a unique camp setting.   Our teen volunteers will develop leadership and communication skills, as well as increase their comfort with public speaking, all under the guidance of our experienced camp staff.

As a youth volunteer at Mystic Aquarium, you’ll gain valuable skills in leadership, public speaking, task management, community outreach and more. Learn about the amazing animals in our care and help share their stories with Aquarium guests through fun, hands-on activities while teaching the importance of conserving our ocean environment.

Youth Conservation Corps

Come and join an amazing group of high school students who work together to explore and conserve local and threatened environments as well as to get fellow high school students and the public involved in community programs.

The members of this group regularly participate in beach clean-ups, amphibian monitoring, hosts workshops and summits, and development of conservation based activities fellow students and the public.
