Josh Sews For Conservation

Meet Josh Davis, Senior Trainer of Penguins at Mystic Aquarium.  Everyday Josh collaborates with the rest of the penguin team to ensure the highest quality of care and well-being for our colony of 31 African penguins through feeding, training and enrichment sessions. In addition to husbandry or health care training, the penguin team focuses on training African penguins to participate in interactive programs and to travel to schools across Southern New England for outreach.  The penguin team also sends a staff member every year to SANCCOB (Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds) to assist in the rehabilitation of abandoned African penguin chicks; a project Josh has had the privilege of embarking on three times. It would be impossible to accomplish these goals without the penguin teams strong support of staff, interns and volunteers continuously supporting these mission programs.

In his spare time, Josh enjoys a variety of hobbies including sewing. A few years ago, Josh began sewing reusable tote bags as gifts for friends and relatives. His latest venture, PenguinBoyBags, is aimed at sewing bags using fabric featuring various animals and natural elements; all with the common goal of promoting awareness for nature and more sustainable habits including eliminating single use plastic products.
