Celebrate the African penguin! These lovable creatures are a favorite among aquarium guests and on Saturday, October 13, everyone will have the opportunity to cheer on penguins as they race and participate in penguin themed activities, all included with aquarium admission.

9 a.m. 6th Annual Penguin Run/Walk

11 a.m. – 3 p.m. African penguin activities

• Oil spills affect penguins. Discover what we do to clean and rehabilitate these birds.

• Find out how programs such as the Chick Bolstering Project are helping to promote the conservation of the next generation of penguins.

• Take a walk on the wild side. What is it like to be a penguin and how have they adapted to life on land and in the water.

• Create your own penguin mask and penguin ID bracelet.

• Get a fun temporary penguin tattoo and show your support of African penguin conservation.

11:15 a.m. Doors open for own African penguin’s to race in the Foxwoods Marine Theater.

11:30 a.m. African penguin race starts in the Foxwoods Marine Theater

1:30 p.m. Penguin feeding & trainer presentation at the Roger Tory Peterson Penguin Pavilion

2:30 p.m. See an African penguin enrichment swim at the Roger Tory Peterson Penguin Pavilion

Mystic Aquarium's penguin colony serves as ambassadors for their wild, endangered counterparts. The African penguin population has decreased by an alarming 60 percent since 2001 and just by visiting Mystic Aquarium, you contribute to important African penguin conservation efforts.
