Sea Research Foundation’s Mystic Aquarium kicks off its inaugural Summer Drive-in Movie Series on June 28 with James Cameron’s “Titanic,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Complementing the success of the aquarium’s newest exhibit, Titanic – 12,450 Feet Below, “Titanic” will be shown on a 40 foot screen in the aquarium’s gravel parking lot on the corner of Coogan Blvd. and Jerry Brown Rd.
The nostalgic, family-friendly Summer Drive-in Movie Series celebrates the season and provides lifelong memories with marine-themed outdoor screenings. The movie’s sound will be heard through car radio and no drive-in experience is complete without concessions. Hot dogs, popcorn, soda and ice cream will be available for purchase.
The parking lot opens at 8 p.m. and the movie begins at 9 p.m. Only 140 cars will be admitted at $20 per car. Advance tickets can be purchased at mysticaquarium.org and are recommended as the event is expected to sell out.
Mystic Aquarium opened Titanic – 12,450 Feet Below on April 12 to commemorate the centenary of the ship’s maiden voyage and sinking. Created by Dr. Robert Ballard, renowned oceanographer who discovered Titanic in 1985, and Tim Delaney, former Walt Disney Imagineer, the multi-million dollar exhibit brings Titanic’s timeless history to life with captivating imagery, breathtaking recreations, emotional soundscapes, hands-on activities and thrilling entertainment that transport guests to the moment of Titanic’s discovery.
The Summer Drive-in Movie Series is scheduled to continue in August with dates and times to be announced.
