Pearl Harbor

In 2000, Dr. Robert Ballard led a search for a Japanese midget submarine, one of several involved in the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.

The sub was not found, but a large search area was mapped extensively surrounding the location where veterans of the USS Ward said they sank the sub. It is likely that the sub did not actually sink right away, but was able to travel a while outside the search area before sinking. A number of other WWII relics were discovered in this area.
