Human Resources Internship Job Description

The Sea Research Foundation seeks an unpaid intern to assist the Human Resources department in day-today activities. An ideal intern would be available to work a minimum of 15 hours a week, Monday-Friday during normal business hours. Specific scheduling is flexible. Reports directly to Director of Human Resources.

This internship will give the intern valuable, real-world experience, as well as providing the Human Resources team with additional support. Well-suited candidates should have an interest in human resources. Students must be currently enrolled or recent graduates, and plan to pursue a career in a related field.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with new hire orientations
  • Assist with recruiting and staffing
  • Track cost and effectiveness of media outlets for job postings
  • Post new positions on various websites
  • Sort incoming resumes and log them into appropriate tracking spreadsheets
  • Complete and mail out offer and regret letters
  • Coordinate candidate interviews
  • Process background checks and save results when they are returned
  • Prepare new hire packets
  • Perform miscellaneous office duties (filing, making copies, etc.)
  • Assist with miscellaneous special projects as needed
  • Abide by all Sea Research Foundation policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Maintain a satisfied level of customer service with clients both internal and external.
  • Properly handle client requests through responsiveness, follow-up, and escalation.
  • Work proactively with other team members.
  • Prioritize activities for the best interest of the team when working on joint projects.
  • Handle client requests and deliver quality solutions if able, or escalate the request to a more senior team member
  • Openly share new ideas and information with other team members.
  • Keep other team members apprised to avoid surprises and disappointed clients.

  • Personable, able to comfortably and pleasantly deal with a variety of people
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Problem solving capabilities necessary to accomplish the duties and tasks of the position
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Ability to effectively learn and acquire new knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to share knowledge and work in a strong team oriented environment.
  • Detail oriented
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and e-mail

Acceptance Requirements

The student must be enrolled in or recently graduated from college in order to participate. Internships are open to both undergraduate and graduate students. If the student’s college offers credit for internships, it is the student’s responsibility to arrange for the credit.
