We need your help. Donations of any amount, made by someone like you, do make a difference! Your donation made today will help to further our efforts in a number of ways. Here are just a few examples of how your contributions can do the most good.
Support for Sea Research Foundation
Education
Each year, our education programs reach 600,000 children locally and nationally. Our Traveling Teacher program engages students in Connecticut and Rhode Island, teaching them about their local marine environment through hands-on experiences. Immersion Learning serves as a national network of community-based, youth-oriented, organizations including Boys & Girls Clubs, museums, aquariums, school districts, educational service centers and universities in 40 states. The program reaches approximately 500,000 youth annually and has been in existence since 2002, when it was spun off the nationally acclaimed middle school science program, the JASON project - a program of the National Geographic Society.
Research
As a leader in the aquarium research community, Sea Research Foundation has made significant advances in marine science. Our ongoing Research program enables us to study animals in controlled environments and natural habitats. These projects help us learn more about each species, so we can give them the best care possible, whether they live here or in the wild.
Exploration
The Institute for Exploration is a pioneer in deep ocean archaeology. Constant advances in technology make this exploration possible and also allow us to share discoveries with historians and archaeologists around the globe. Our in-depth exhibit hall showcases the discoveries of Dr. Ballard and his team, while Immersion Presents broadcasts expeditions live to students across the country.
Rescue and Rehabilitation
The Marine Animal Rescue Team responds to reports of sick or injured seals, sea turtles or other marine animals stranded along the coastal waters of Connecticut and Rhode Island. It is the constant goal of our rescue team to rehabilitate each animal in their care with the hope of finally releasing each animal back into their ocean home. Your donated dollars can be used to buy much needed food, medicine, medical tools and assistance to aid in these animals’ recovery.
365 Days of Animal Care
”When I went to the Aquarium last summer, it seemed busy enough. Don’t the admission tickets generate the money needed to keep it running?” Yes, ticket sales are an important source of funding, but not nearly enough to provide for all the food, care and attention of all our wonderful animals. Our animals need food and care seven days a week, 365 days a year, including the winter months when attendance is low. Your donated dollars help pay for everything the animals need, from electricity to power the pumps continually delivering oxygenated water, to the 70 pounds of fish a day needed by a Beluga whale.
If all of these reasons aren’t enough, it is important to know that because Sea Research Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, your donation is tax-deductible. But most important of all, you can be confident that every cent of your donation will be put to good use, supporting our mission to inspire people to care for and protect our ocean planet through education, research and exploration. Only through the support of our members, friends, and supporters can we realize these goals. |
