Summer camp 2018 registration is now live!

What do young explorers, animal and nature lovers, and budding marine biologists have in common? They can all find a summer camp to suit their interests at Mystic Aquarium.

Offered June through August, our camps offer hands-on activities, up-close animal encounters, field trips and other fun and educational experiences for children ages 3 to 16. For younger children, the Aquarium offers day camps, while older kids have the opportunity to participate in overnight programs.


In an effort to consolidate and keep camper health information secure, we use the electronic health record system for all required paperwork. All registered campers will receive an email directly from with detailed instructions on how to submit required health forms and paperwork. The website is secure, encrypted, and password protected.

TODDLERS and their caregivers


Spend time with your little one and learn about aquatic animals and their habitats in one of our interactive classrooms. This program utilizes stories, activities, crafts and live animals to keep you and your child engaged and learning. The last class of each session is spent going on an adventure at Bluff Point in Groton, Connecticut exploring and looking for sea creatures in their natural habitat.

Schedule: Choose one of our two different sessions, or take them both.

Entering PreK-K


Sea Stars is a half-day, weeklong experience specifically designed for campers entering pre-Kindergarten or Kindergarten. Held in our early childhood classroom, our youngest campers will learn through hands-on experiences and animal encounters in a safe and inviting environment designed just for them. Whether they are interacting with their peers while playing outside in our Sea School Green, meeting fascinating Aquarium staff and enjoying fun projects, your camper will have a blast throughout the week.

Blue Planet (STEM)
  This week will be a fantastic week of scientific exploration—from messy, smelly, sensational experiments, and engineering challenges to discovering math in nature and recording data—it’s the perfect week for preschoolers! This week will also include water play, a visit to the Water Lab, and discovering all there is to know about our Ocean Planet.

Marine Mammal Mania—
This week will include Beluga Day, the  Sea Lion Show and the Animal Rescue Clinic.  Children have opportunities to learn all about marine mammals, their adaptations and characteristics, as well as how we care for them. Campers will also learn about how we  rescue, rehabilitate and release some of the awesome animals.

Tiny Transformations
—This week includes all things that undergo metamorphosis or fantastic transformations—from frog and pond life to butterflies, insects and birds, to fairy gardening and observing the tiniest aspects of nature.

Dino Dig!—
Yes you guessed it, this week will be all about dinosaurs!  Children will become junior paleontologists while exploring the realm of the dinosaur!  There will be digging sites and excavations on the Green and more while exploring everything there is to know about these fascinating prehistoric animals.

Let our energetic staff take your camper on an adventure through the amazing marine world!  Campers will be engaged and educated as they visit behind the scenes areas of the Aquarium’s exhibits, meet unique animals and learn from animal care staff.  Additional camp activities include a field trip to Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center and Bluff Point State Park to learn about the wonderful world of animal antics.

New for 2018! Are there dinosaurs roaming the earth today? Campers will be transported back in time to explore the relationship between dinosaurs, reptiles and amphibians. Through hands-on activities, crafts, games, behind-the-scenes visits and fun-filled trips to Dinosaur State Park and Bluff Point State Park, campers will uncover the connections between animals on land and sea, both past and present.

This action packed, weeklong camp will have your camper learning about some of the most endangered animals on the planet. Campers will not only discover the difficulties that endangered animals face but will have the opportunity to learn how they can help!  Camp highlights include hands-on activities, meeting with conservation and animal care experts, touring behind the scenes of the Aquarium’s exhibits and field trips to Roger Williams Zoo and Bluff Point State Park.

New for 2018! This weeklong camp is specially designed for the aspiring young scientist who is ready to dive into marine biology! With the help of aquarium staff, campers will learn how we use science every day to not only care for the Aquarium’s animals and exhibits but also to protect our ocean planet. Through hands-on activities, games, crafts and trips to Bluff Point State Park and the CT Science Center, campers will uncover the mysteries of science.

Eco Explorers camp is a full-day, weeklong camp exploring habitats including the desert, coral reefs, Long Island Sound and more. Eco Explorers will participate in engaging hands-on activities, games, crafts and behind the scenes visits and go on two field trips; Roger Williams Zoo and Bluff Point State Park. Our exploration minded staff will utilize our exhibits and meetings with our animal care staff to guide your camper through their Eco Exploration experience.

Join us on a field trip to the Mesozoic Era in search of dinosaurs!  Campers will conduct hands-on activities, visit behind the scenes to meet with the diverse reptile and amphibians that call the Aquarium home, and even travel to Dinosaur State Park – all to learn the truth about these “terrifying lizards”!

Mystic Aquarium and Project Oceanology are teaming up for the return of this very popular summer camp! Held at both facilities, this camp is specially designed for budding marine biologists! Jointly taught, instructors from both organizations will lead your campers on a journey of investigation to discover how animals survive in various habitats, adapt to environmental changes, and how these changes are impacting animals and plants that call them home. Extended Day is not offered for this camp.

This joint camp with the Mystic Seaport has campers sailing at the Seaport in the morning and then traveling to the Aquarium for hands-on programming to learn about the animals and habitats of the Mystic River and Long Island Sound. This program will provide your child the unique opportunity to see the Mystic River from above and below.

Entering Grades 7-9


Mystic Aquarium and Project Oceanology have teamed up again to create the perfect camp! In this weeklong program, campers will participate in research cruises for three days with Project Oceanology where they will discover life in and around our Long Island Sound.  Then they will spend two days at Mystic Aquarium exploring the work being done to protect ecosystems around the world. Spending time on the water, participating in experiments, meeting with expert scientists, and even heading behind the scenes of the aquariums exhibits, campers will learn about the many conservation opportunities that await them.

ENTERING GRADES 7 through 10


Do you ever wonder what it would be like to work as a marine biologist? Get the fun, hands-on experience by participating in activities the marine biologists at the Mystic Aquarium conduct every day. Participants will tour behind the scenes areas, interact with aquarium staff, investigate Bluff Point State Park and, weather permitting, spend some time on the water. As an added bonus, campers will spend the night at the aquarium enjoying the exhibits after hours.

Teens love marine biology and yearn to know what it’s like to be a scientist. Join New England Science & Sailing (NESS) and the Mystic Aquarium for this exciting program that allows for a unique experience in the best aspects of a career in marine biology. Participants will start their day at NESS exploring Little Narragansett Bay by kayak, snorkel, foot and boat where they will perform field research before heading over to the Mystic Aquarium for more engaging hands-on programming. This program is designed to give teens a real taste of what it’s like to be a marine biologist. All registration will be through New England Science and Sailing (NESS).

Pre-Vet: Animal Health and Veterinary Science

The University of Connecticut (UConn) is partnering with Mystic Aquarium to host a week-long residential camp based on the UConn Storrs campus. Teens will work hands-on with case studies of beluga whales, penguins, seals, etc., alongside respected research scientists, veterinarians, and animal-rescue staff from both UConn and the Aquarium. Participants will utilize Aquarium facilities to explore the worlds of genetics, hematology, microbiology, pathology, and anatomy while learning directly from experts across a variety of careers in both animal health and veterinary science. They will also tour both the state-of-the-art animal-care center at the Aquarium and the research labs at UConn Avery Point. And they’ll be right in the lab with our animal-rescue team, learning how they study seals that strand along the New England coast. This week in July is an active exploration of whether animal health and veterinary science is the potential career path for any interested student!

EXTENDED DAY Entering Grades 1-6

Need help with hectic schedules? Let your child enjoy extended day activities including a variety of crafts, games and snacks, offered 4:00pm-5:00pm. Available for most camps.
