Workshops for Adults
These workshops offer a great, flexible opportunity for adults of all ages. They can be booked in an aquarium classroom as a traveling program anywhere within 90 miles of Mystic Aquarium. Each program is one hour long and specifically designed for adults.
Regular programming apply
Learn how and why marine invertebrates are classified into their unique phylum. This class allows participants to study live animals close up and discover first hand how invertebrates are classified into specific groups.
Marine Mammals of Long Island Sound
Mystic Aquarium is a founding member of the Northeast Region Stranding Network and to date has responded to more than 1100 stranded seals, whales, dolphins, and sea turtles. Throughout this program, participants will learn about the life history of our local sea turtle and marine mammals species, the work being done to rescue and rehabilitate these animals, and the important information we are learning about the health of our oceans.
Aquarium Guided Tour
Fee: $10/person per hour
A member of our Guest Services interpretation team will take your group on a personalized tour of the Aquarium’s exhibits that will include specialized talks, fascinating facts and information that will engage participants at every turn.
Tours are offered for 5 – 15 participants. All participants must pay Aquarium admission. Reservations must be made at least 2 weeks in advance.
Sea Lion Training Program
Groups of 50-400
Fee: $4 per student
Have you ever wondered “How did they train that animal to do that?” Our California Sea Lion Training Program will show you. This unique opportunity gives your group an inside look at our new show behavior training and animal care program, and will provide the opportunity to ask our animal trainers questions.
Programs take place in the Foxwoods Marine Theater.
Programs accommodate multiple groups until maximum is reached.
Booking is limited – usually available M, W, F.
Cost: $450 for one program; $660 for two programs help on the same day, in the same location.
Mystic Aquarium educators will travel to your school or organization to present fun, educational, and engaging 45-60 minute presentation for your students in an auditorium setting for up to 300 students. Choose from four programs: penguins, sharks, beluga whales, or explore the shore. Each presentation will include information and activities as well as a visit from a selection of live marine invertebrates (lobster, horseshoe crab, snails, etc.). These animals will be shown to students utilizing a special camera that can magnify the animals on a big screen. This program promises to be an entertaining and education experience!
Is your school or group hosting a career fair? Countless students are interested in animal training and ocean conservation. Have an aquarium staff member come and talk to your students about the many varied careers in the field of marine biology.

Coming to the Aquarium for a visit? Career programs are also offered on-site in an Aquarium classroom.
Traveling Touch Tank
Hours are customized to meet your needs.
Program rate is $275 for up to two hours and $125 for each additional hour.
Liven up your next conference, fair or meeting by including a live, local invertebrate Touch & Learn. We will bring a touch tank with lobsters, horseshoe crabs and shellfish right to your function to entertain and educate people of all ages. Perfect for a larger group that might not have time for a full presentation.
Penguin Animal Ambassador Program
This one of a kind program brings an African penguin right to your school! Students not only meet one of our resident penguins but will also learn from their trainers on how they are working every day to save this Endangered Species. Penguin Animal Ambassador Programs are available October through April on Monday through Wednesday for a one hour block or 2 consecutive 30 minute blocks between 10:00am-12:00pm or 1:00pm-3:00pm. This offering is $1500 for the offsite programming (maximum of 300 students) and $1250 for onsite programming (maximum of 30 students).
