Earlier this week, Mystic Aquarium was recognized by the Business Council of Fairfield County as a gold winner for its successful efforts in promoting a healthy workplace. On February 14, Kateri Wheeler, SPHR, Senior Director, Human Resources, accepted the award on behalf of Mystic Aquarium during the Healthy Workplaces Best Practices Award Ceremony held at the Stamford Marriott Hotel. Healthy Workplace winners were celebrated for their commitment to employee health and well-being.
At the heart of the award is Mystic Aquarium’s Wellness Committee, whose stated mission is to promote a lifelong commitment to healthy behaviors and lifestyles by empowering, educating and supporting our community and staff.
“We focus on getting our employees to eat smart, move more and manage stress,” said Wheeler.
It is the implementation of countless programs that not only earned Mystic Aquarium the recognition by the Business Council of Fairfield County but is also leading to a healthier work environment for their administrative and animal care teams. Mystic Aquarium provides employees a balanced menu of wellness initiatives that includes free health biometric screenings, on-site flu shots, and free on-site High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). In addition to a one-mile walking route around the Aquarium, low-cost activities are offered to employees and their families, like golf and bowling leagues. Other initiatives include complimentary office ergonomic counseling, monthly educational tips and much more.
