MYSTIC AQUARIUM AND CT DEEP JOIN FORCES TO OPEN SAFE BOATING EXHIBIT
Mystic, Conn. (May 19, 2016): Today Mystic Aquarium welcomed dignitaries from Connecticut’s Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) to officially open a Safe Boating Exhibit at Mystic Aquarium. The organizations have teamed up to create an exhibit that highlights important information like buoy indication and navigational rules, responsible boat maintenance, clean water initiatives and much more; all with the goal of helping keep both boaters and the environment safe.
Remotely operated vessels provide guests with means to actively engage with the important issue. The exhibit also includes educational signage and a lighthouse replica housing and informational video.
The event, which coincides with the commencement off National Safe Boating Week, May 21-27, 2016, included Commissioner Rob Klee, Deputy Commissioner Susan Whalen, Boating Safety Coordinator Jerry Desmond, Boating Division Director Eleanor Mariani, and a host of others from the Boating division. Also on hand for the event were, Stonington Police Department Captain Todd Olsen, Police Commissioner Robert O’Shaugnessy and Stonington First Selectmen Rob Simmons.
